Kitted out on stage with a huge silver ghetto blaster, denim jackets, and masses of energy, Renegade returns to the roots of hip hop in Germany. Break legend Niels »Storm« Robitzky and six dancers revive the spectacular moves of breaking of the 1980s, which caused a sensation in inner city pedestrian zones around the country. But where does urban dance stand today and how has the aesthetic evolved? Can the spirit of the early years be revived, or did it never disappear? »Back to the Roots« is a journey through time and, at the same time, a review of diverse urban styles.

Breaking Workshop with Leo Vara
Before the performance, Renegade company dancer Leo Vara from Mexico invites you to try out essential elements of breaking such as floorwork and also to get to know more abstract methods such as »threading«. Leo’s workshop will start with the deconstruction of different techniques and explore the original forms of breaking.
