Katernberg blitzt auf!
A stroll through
the neighbourhood

a host of local institutions, social groups, organizations, places of worship, surgeries, cafes, shops and private households throughout Katernberg open their doors to the immediate community and interested visitors. All of the locations taking part on the day can be discovered by foot or bike (available free of charge) either independently or on suggested routes of special interest.

Aimed at heightening the visibility and awareness of cultural and social opportunities and activities in the district of Katernberg, this unique communal project offers fun opportunities to explore both familiar and unexpected facets of local life and gain a greater appreciation of the neighbourhood’s cultural diversity.

This project is initiated by Arbeitskreis Kunst und Soziales (art and social engagement working group) which is since 2013 part of the Sozialraumkonferenz (social space conference) representing Essen-Katernberg, Schonnebeck and Stoppenberg. Current members of the working group are: Bürgerzentrum Kon-Takt, Institut für Stadtteilentwicklung, Sozialraumorientierte Arbeit und Beratung der Universität Duisburg-Essen (ISSAB), Jugendamt Essen, Jugendwerk der Arbeiterwohlfahrt Essen, Jugendzentrum Schonnebeck, PACT Zollverein, Stellwerk GmbH, Stiftung Zollverein (Zollverein mittendrin)

Supported by PACT Zollverein within the framework of the Alliance of International Production Houses supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and with funding from Sozialen Stadt NRW within the framework of Soziale Stadt- Investitionen im Quartier and the youth welfare office of Essen.
