In ›Muscle‹ the charismatic choreographer and former Forsythe dancer, Richard Siegal and acclaimed guitarist, singer and experimental composer, Arto Lindsay, explore how different components and performers can highlight each other or cancel each other out. Using improvisation, composed and recorded material in ways that are not always easy to tell apart, they push the borders of perception in their relative fields of dance and music so that the audience sees Arto Lindsay playing and hears Richard Siegal dancing. The title of the piece pays reference to two pioneers of contemporary dance and music: Yvonne Rainer and her performance ›The Mind is a Muscle‹, which is considered a milestone in concept art, and the Brazilian singer Caetano Veloso and his song ›Musculo que sonha‹ (›Muscles that dream‹).

»When Lindsay has played the audience into the mood with tremendous power and only three chords on his guitar, Siegal appears and music and dance begin an extremely funny and ingenious exchange.« FAZ, 25.08.09
