A heavy memory

As an artist in exile Mudar Alhaggi examines how migrants approach their memories: Do they use them as instruments of resistance in order to preserve identity?  Or do they increasingly abandon them in order to fit into their new society? Mudar Alhaggi examines how memories are handled: what general impact do they have on people? And what effect do memories have on people who are torn out of the life they knew, who leave it and the place of their recollections? Alhaggi highlights the ambivalent meaning and potential of integration against the background of memory.
