THE WHITE VOID_SERIES is not a performance in the conventional sense but rather a performative installation which invites the audience over a period of two hours to look and to listen, to linger or come and go as they please.
Together with his company dancers, a shepherd, a flock of sheep and 15 grey haired collaborators from the Ruhr Region, Ben J. Riepe turns his attention to notions of nature, theatre, authenticity and time. PACT Zollverein’s spatial environment and the performer’s memories of youth, community, naturalness and moments of timeless beauty bathed in glistening light lend the work it’s starting point.
The installation sees the audience move through different spaces and scenes as part of a live experiment in making time and temporality tangible. Exploring the intersections between the visual arts and performing arts, choreographer Ben J. Riepe describes moments that take form in the imagination of the beholder and others which are invoked by the past and recontextualized in the present.
