Brazilian choreographer Bruno Beltrão is widely known with his company Grupo de Rua for his danced deconstruction of hip-hop. Beltrão’s international breakthrough came with his acclaimed productions H2 and H3. In 2010, he was awarded New York’s prestigious Bessie Award for H3 which was presented at PACT Zollverein in 2008 during the International Dance Festival NRW directed by Pina Bausch.
For his latest work ›CRACKz‹, Beltrão and his 14 company dancers have gathered movement material from day to day life as well as web-archived movements from the internet. Combining these “gestures created by people” with virtuoso hip-hop technique in minimalistic solos and tumultuous group sequences, they embark on a nomadic experiment between popular culture and the avant-garde.
