JETLAGNO.4– STRETCH. AN ENCOUNTER WITH EXTREME DURATION IN MEDIA ART

  • Sat 24.10.09 18 h

Contemporary media arts’ specific approach to the factor of time is a constituent of the aesthetic moment. Extremely long works draw our attention to the materiality and functionality of human perception.

On the programme devised by Inke Arns and Werner Nekes are Douglas Gordon’s ›24 Hour Psycho‹, Andy Warhol’s ›Empire State‹ as well as Leif Inge’s soundscape ›9 Beet Stretch‹, made of Ludwig van Beethoven’s famous ninth Symphony stretched over 24 hours. Bogomir Ecker’s ›Tropfsteinmaschine‹ will create a 5 cm tall stalagmite in 500 years. By contrast, the artist duo UBERMORGEN.COM devise a more conceptual timeframe in ›Google Will Eat Itself‹ (GWEI), a project that will make them the owners of the popular search engine in around 200 million years time.
