In a world driven by human ambition and technology, mountains, deserts, and oceans remain untamed spaces. In ›Magec / the Desert‹, Radouan Mriziga explores vast, arid landscapes as geographies of wisdom and rethinks the relationship between humanity and nature. As usual, the choreographer works collaboratively: together with his team, he weaves rhythm, text, movement, and sound into a polyphony of perspectives.

From the Sahara to the Thar Desert and the steppes of Central Asia, deserts emerge as spaces of reflection where the smallness of humanity reveals itself and myths, literature, and cultural knowledge take shape. The performance, which is part of the trilogy ›Atlas / the Mountain‹, ›Magec / the Desert‹, and ›Awessu / the Sea‹, views the desert not as a void, but as a space of insight that demands humility instead of domination. Inspired by the crafts, the music, and the embodied practices of desert cultures, it explores the rhythms, ecologies, and knowledge systems of the desert – using symbols such as the sundial.

Like the desert itself, ›Magec / the Desert‹ defies unambiguous interpretations and reveals how the quite vastness of this landscape invites the audience to perceive their own vision of abundance.
