WALDINTERIEURS

Astrid Korntheuer (Offenbach)

The exhibit's title recalls the photographs taken by Gustave Le Grays of the Fontainebleau forest in the mid 19th Century.
In Waldinterieur, Astrid Korntheuer considers the contradicting hopes and fears that people associate with forests. Even though people manifest a desire for untouched rural landscapes they also repeatedly and arbitrarily encroach on the very essence of such surroundings.
Astrid Korntheuer's two dimensional, calm and concise photographs were taken with a 4 x 5 inch plate camera in Germany, Chile and Argentina. The black and white negatives were printed on course grained paper on which the pigments cover the surface like silk.

Video demonstration and interactive installation

GOALING LOOPS - VIDEO-LOOP (2 min)

Per Pegelow / Sabine Lang (Düsseldorf)

›Goaling Loops‹ is concerned with the architecture of football stadiums globally. The aim of the work is to create a computer game in which the user - like a virtual football - bounces through a stadium. If he succeeds in flying through the goal he finds himself in another stadium. In this way, a sufficiently skilled player can complete a course which takes him to five different locations.
The first stage of the project is in the form of an animated trailer that demonstrates the principle of the application as well as three exhibit objects based on material from the trailer.

Main Stage

KALT (18 min)

Choreography and Dance: Lucia Glass (Berlin)

KALT is a continuation of PANTONYM, a short study shown at PACT Zollverein during the April Atelier 2005. Both works are to be viewed however as independent versions of the study. The new version concentrates on the correlation between movements and their meaning. How can a movement distance itself from its meaning and how can different types of clothing or the giving of a title, change our perception of a movement?

Film

LE GARDE (DER AUFPASSER) (11 min)

Alice Cassy / Alexandre Castres (Wuppertal)

Through his wish to live a more exciting life, a bored museum guard invents his own reality. It's about guarding a door, remembering a security PIN-Code number, Chinese tourists, a choreographer, his sister, movement and stillness.

LIVE INTERACTIVE DRAWING & GHOST STORY (20 min)

Choreography and Dance: Andrea Bozic (Amsterdam)

Video: Julia Willms (Wilhelmshaven)

Two extracts, Live interactive drawing and Ghost story, from a project that Andrea Bozic and Julia Willms are currently developing in residency at PACT Zollverein.
The project is an attempt to build a 'generator of stories' on stage based on dancers trying to embody un-successful situations as they remember them from personal history or as drawn from paintings, photographs, publicity, fashion and similar visual material. The two dancers create fiction out of their partner's actions. Next they join the fiction they just created and treat it as real. They know it's a game but they play because someone might be watching.

Performance

IT HAS NO MOUTH, AND IT MUST SCREAM (10 min)

Concept, music, visuals and performance: miu (Bochum)

Artistic co-ordination: Akiko Okamoto

In this work, the performance artist miu considers the subject of word vocabulary. On the one hand, words are closely connected to the personality, identity and memories of the individual that uses them. On the other hand, words do not automatically loose their ability to convey meaning when they are separated from this individual or from a specific context.
On a screen, people can be seen answering the question 'What is your favourite movement?'. The interviews are fragmented to fabricate one collective external memory. This drags the dancer out of his own physical vocabulary and disturbs and spoils his movement. Through receiving so many plug-ins of memories, his autonomy as a 'host body' is ultimately destroyed. Nevertheless, miu tries, by dancing in his own words, to speak of his own memories.
