The Ruhr District and Istanbul are two European Capitals of Culture that present the challenges of a multi-cultural society through art and culture. Consequently RUHR 2010 and garajistanbul, a production house for contemporary theatre, initiated an exchange: European choreographer and director Michael Laub, who has been producing portraits for the stage since 2002, chose his protagonists from a pool of 200 applicants and developed the framework for 17 solos. A picture of women in society in present-day Istanbul emerges from a series of individual observations.
