In his piece ›SIGNSTORM‹, director Michikazu Matsune looks into the performative potential of sign language and, together with deaf performers, opens up its playful potential.

The performance is not principally about sign language and the sensory experiential possibilities of being deaf; instead it allows the audience an insight and participation in the everyday life and reality of deaf people. The artist, who is Japanese and lives in Vienna, uses elements of documentary film, music video and talk shows – each of them simultaneously translated into spoken and written German – in a performance that offers both hearing and non-hearing viewers an intensive, humorous and deeply sensory mutual experience.
