The internationally renowned dance company Cullberg is collaborating with choreographer Ligia Lewis for the first time. In her new piece ›Some Thing Folk‹, she expands the concept of the people and creates a utopian idea of belonging beyond national borders. She visualises how racist history is tethered to the skin, and questions any reductive explanation.
Drawing on the theories of Black feminist Zakkiyyah Iman Jackson and cultural anthropologist Elizabeth Povinelli, Ligia Lewis explores complex forms of embodiment. Aleksei German’s film adaptation of the science fiction novel ›Hard to Be a God‹ serves as her visual inspiration.
