MAMAZA / Ensemble Nikel

For their latest work, the dance-maker collective MAMAZA – Ioannis Mandafounis, Fabrice Mazliah and May Zarhy have teamed up with contemporary musicians from Ensemble Nikel. Both collectives shared the ambition of making a work in which dance and music meets without either entity falling into a subordinate role. ›The Nikel Project‹ is an exchange at eye level in which bodies, objects and existing realities develop a score of movements and sounds. Playfully and humorously, the five artists bring audible images and visible sounds to merge in an entirely new and definition defying form.

The piece begins with a participatory component during which the audience gains insight into the contents and core issues of the trio’s choreographic practice through specific exercises.
