Since it was founded in 2002, PACT Zollverein has clearly positioned itself as an initiator, catalyst and venue for seminal developments in the fields of dance, performance, theatre, media and fine arts.
Housed in the former shower facilities of the largest colliery in the Ruhr District, PACT Zollverein remains closely linked with the history of the building and the whole Zollverein complex.
PACT Zollverein has been supporting residencies for the development of artistic projects and productions since 2002. The Residency Programme is open to professional artists from home and abroad who work in the areas of dance, performance, media arts or music. The recipients are offered a work space and local accommodation, and according to individual need, they can take advantage of various kinds of production support, such as dramaturgy, technical assistance, project management as well as press and publicity.
Since it was founded PACT Zollverein has, in the framework of the ATELIER series, offered emerging and established choreographers, dancers, performers, fine artists and musicians a chance to present their work to the general public during a shared evening length programme.
We are pleased to announce that as well as modern classes we will then also be offering regular complementary classes in GYROKINESIS®, the Alexander Technique and Yoga. For more details please see the monthly class schedules.
Initiated by Thomas Lehmen and PACT Zollverein in 2009, the next edition of ›Choreographic Dialogues‹ in summer 2011 invites regional and international artists to participate in an intensive several day artistic exchange of practice.
Contact Improvisation is a form of dance improvisation in which points of physical contact provide the starting point for exploring weight transfer, counter balance, momentum, gravity and suspension. It is about freeing the body from habitual movement patterns and concepts, trusting intuition and spontaneous interaction in movement and exploiting the rich possibilities of the present moment.
PACT Zollverein’s research and development formats offer students, artists, researchers, practitioners and academics from different disciplines diverse chances to involve themselves in temporary working and learning communities and situations.
»One of the most important performance groups anywhere. Station House Opera possess that rarest of all things, a unique vision articulated through a genuinely theatrical language.« (Performance Magazine)
IMPACT05 invited four outstanding artists: Xavier Le Roy (F/D), Antoni Muntadas (ES/US), Miranda Pennell & John Smith (GB) to jointly ›trace translations‹ in contemporary artistic production in the fields of dance, theatre, film, and New Media. Taking different approaches, the artists not only addressed subtle shifts in the relationship between public and private spheres but were also concerned with investigating artistic translation strategies between the fields of documentary and fiction.
IMPACT04 considers strategies, methodologies and tools used in theatre practices today. Taking part are three leading groups all of whose work explores the extents, confines and possibilities of theatre and theatrical spaces. BLAST THEORY (GB), BALLETT FRANKFURT (D) und RIMINI PROTOKOLL (D) offer an insight into their working practices, ideas and projects.
The second part of Borderline, a PACT research project that deals with the latest practice and concepts at the point where art and the economy connect, gives rise to a film installation entitled ›Choreography of Organising‹. In the film cultural scientist Eva Kiefer and scenographer Katleen Arthen go looking for the essential constants of dance – space, movement and rhythm – within industrial production methods employed by companies based in and around Essen. A book is to be published that documents the film installation as well as the symposium that took place last winter.
