On the left is a portrait of Alexis Pauline Gumbs. Alexis is a Black person with curly, voluminous hair and wears a turquoise scarf and a long necklace with a large green pendant. To the right is the cover of her book “UNERTRUNKEN,” which shows two stylized black human figures surrounded by blue, abstract sea creature shapes. The background of the book cover is beige, and the title and other text are printed in black.

Since May 2025, we have been inviting you to join our regular reading circle! Together, we select texts and topics—in several languages, depending on demand and interest.

As part of the exhibition on water in the Kleiner Laden, we will also be exploring the topic of “underwater” from the perspective of Black feminism in the second half of the year. In the current political and ecological landscape, we ask ourselves: How can we remain UNERTRUNKEN and continue to breathe and live? We will discuss this question with the help of the book “Unertrunken – WAS ICH ALS SCHWARZE FEMINISTIN VON MEERESSÄUGETIEREN LERNTE” (Unertrunken – WHAT I LEARNED FROM MARINE MAMMALS AS A BLACK FEMINIST) by Alexis Pauline Gumbs (translated by Daniele Seel).

From 1:30 p.m., we will take a break from reading and thematic exchange and move on to our lazy Sunday, spending time together, drinking coffee, or cooking together. Come by, read with us, and let's think, discuss, and share a piece of everyday life together.
