SOUND ON – Vol. 2

What do Nina Chuba, Beyoncé, Apache207, Fred Again, Peggy Gou, and BTS have in common? They were all newcomers at one point and would have surely appreciated learning from experienced individuals in the music business. That's precisely what happens at ›SOUND ON‹: Established artists offer tips to young people in free workshops, collaborate with them on creating beats, co-write songs together, assist in refining their ideas, or show them how to get a crowd moving and dancing.

At ›SOUND ON Vol. 1‹, over 40 young music enthusiasts came together over two workshops days and gleaned practical skills, self-confidence, and motivation for their own ventures in the music and media world. Participant Philine Sonny has since been honored with the popNRW Award, and many other former participants have come a long way in living their dreams of making music in their own unique way.

In 2024, ›SOUND ON‹ entered its much awaited second round! What happened this time? The team from BeatBasteln introduced the topic of ›Producing‹. The experienced producer, DJ, and radio host, Raffi Balboa (OK Kid), was coaching in ›Advanced Producing‹. Gîn Bali gave insights into her DJing philosophy and showed her workflow on the CDJs, while Ella O'Brien-Coker shares tangible tips for (self-)management in the music industry. Rapper Horst Wegener, also known as Jesué, helped participants to refine songs and lyrics, while Joël-Joâo delved deep into songwriting. Additionally, Benjamin and Anna from Figur Lemur were on hand sharing valuable know-how about music videos and live sound. As a highlight, Blumengarten played a one-hour long show on Saturday evening, starting at 8pm. To round off the event, the house was open on Sunday from 16 h onwards, welcoming families, friends, and all those interested to attend a concert by that year’s participants. At 19 h, Dein Couseng took to the stage, and ›SOUND ON Vol. 1‹ participant and DJ Amelie Kollek wrapped up the weekend behind the turntables.
