PACT x Ensemble Musikfabrik VII ›SITUATIONS‹

1 / 2 © Janet Sinica

Mauricio Kagel, who died in Cologne in 2008, was one of the leading contemporary composers of his time and the Ensemble Musikfabrik, one of his closest cooperation partners. Curated by Carl Rosman, this concert programme is in a sense a continuation of their long-standing collaboration and presents a selection of Kagel’s late works of which some have been previously performed with Kagel by the ensemble and some are new to their repertoire. In addition to solo pieces and traditional chamber music works, the programme includes a new realization of Kagel's infamous score ›Ludwig van‹ from 1970. Composed as an extremely critical homage to Beethoven's bicentenary celebrations, the composition deals with questions of artistic reception and commodification that are still relevant today.
