In a dark event room, several people sit in the audience while four people take part in a discussion at a podium table on stage. The stage is backlit with blue lighting, and in the background is a white wall with a projection showing the word “Kultursalon”. Large green plants stand to the left and right of the stage. The panelists chat in a relaxed manner.

On the eve of the 2026 German Dance Award gala, the German Dance Association is organising the Kultursalon at PACT Zollverein. Moderated discussions, intermezzi by performance artist Ruth Geiersberger, culinary delicacies and music all combine to create an evening of shared remembrance in an atmospheric setting. A space is fashioned in which perspectives on the artistic work and impact of prize winner Christian Spuck and the honourees Dr Gabriele Brandstetter and Tadashi Endo are brought to life in words, gestures and movements.

The Kultursalon offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in an exciting dialogue between award winners, honourees, jury and audience.

The German Dance Award is the most prestigious prize for dance in Germany and has been awarded annually since 1983. The gala will take place on 28 February at the Aalto-Theater in Essen.

The German Dance Award is sponsored by the City of Essen, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as well as the Norbert-Lammert-Stiftung and Kulturstiftung Essen.
