›The Farewell‹, the last section of Gustav Mahler’s ›The Song of the Earth‹, constitutes both starting point as well as vanishing point for Grace Ellen Barkey’s most personal choreography to date: ›FOREVER‹, to which she and scenographer Lot Lemm give powerful visual expression. The music, sung live by Maarten Seghers in a haunting, unaccompanied version, meshes with the three dancers to become a moving force for the evening. A fragile yet stable installation made of porcelain objects opens up a space for disjointed struggles over questions of mortality and eternity. Should the relationship between life and death represent a paradox, simultaneously mutually dependent and restricting, so time becomes a living expression which Lemm&Barkey modify, and invite the audience to constantly re-define anew.
