BaBa ZuLa is a psychedelic-Anatolian band from Istanbul, that was born in 1996. Consisting of Levent Akman, Murat Ertel, Ümit Akdale and Esma Ertel, the band gained international recognition through the soundtrack to Fatih Akın's »Crossing The Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul«. In their energetic live performances, they combine belly dance, poetry and theatrical elements to create an audiovisual spectacle for all the senses. BaBa ZuLa creates its own hypnotic sound, known as »Istanbul psychedelia«, by combining traditional instruments such as the darbouka, spoons and finger cymbals with electric saz and modern sounds.
