Kira Fröse: Über Flüssigkeit – überflüssig – Überflüssigkeit

September 20 – November 21, 2025

On September 20, the second exhibition on the annual theme of ‘water’ opened in Der Kleine Laden: ›Über Flüssigkeit – überflüssig – Überflüssigkeit‹ is about water, but ›Der Kleine Laden‹ has neither a water connection nor a toilet. Artist Kira Fröse elaborates on this ironic contradiction with an installation of a wet room in which, however, there is nothing wet.

Behind the shop window of the Kleiner Laden, you can press your nose against the glass and wonder whether the dripping tap is really dripping or standing still. Is the puddle on the floor really water or a glass object? Have the flip-flops and towels been forgotten by someone or are they part of the installation?

What is reality and what is illusion? Are the tiles on the wall real or just a mural? It's difficult to tell behind the glass in the exhibition ›Über Flüssigkeit – überflüssig – Überflüssigkeit‹, which is on view until November 21, 2025. This mystery can only be revealed during opening hours.

Speaking of ventilation, this should also be done from time to time, because as is customary in wet rooms, chlorine is used for scrubbing here and mould should be avoided!
