Sasha Waltz

... born 1963 in Karlsruhe, received her first dance training from Waltraud Kornhaas, a pupil of Mary Wigman. From 1983 to 1986 she studied at the School For New Dance Development in Amsterdam and then danced in New York from 1986 to 1987 with Pooh Kaye, Yoshiko Chuma & School Of Hard Knocks, Lisa Kraus & Dancers. 1988 saw her co-operating intensively with choreographers, applied artists and musicians such as Tristan Honsinger, Frans Poelstra, Mark Tompkins and David Zambrano. In 1993, she joined together with Jochen Sandig to form the dance ensemble Sasha Waltz & Guests. The company's first work was the "Travelogue Trilogy" (1993-95). Guest performances then took her throughout Europe and North America. In 1996, she was invited by the Theatre Meeting in Berlin to show her piece "Allee der Kosmonauten". Her productions have since been presented at numerous national and international festivals. Since September 1999, Sasha Waltz is a member of the artistic management of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin.
