In 2003, the Belgian group Berlin came together with the idea of developing a series of city portraits. The project ›Holocene‹ – the current geological era – now encompasses four such portraits: Jerusalem, Iqaluit (Alaska), Bonanza (USA) and Moscow and Zvizdal (Ukraine). Berlin’s work is strongly characterised by their interdisciplinary working methods. They move in various artistic and academic fields and combine film with other media depending on the personality of the cities being portrayed. But intense research and immersion into the rhythm and life of the places that have been chosen are also fundamental to their work. At PACT Zollverein BERLIN showed ›Bonanza‹ as part of IMPACT09. The group also toured throughout Europe with ›Moscow‹, whose German premiere was shown at PACT Zollverein in July 2010.  As further pieces of the ›Holocene‹ series, ›Jerusalem [Holocene #1.2]‹ and ›Zvizdal - [Chernobyl - So far so close]‹ celebrated their German premiere at PACT in 2013 and 2016. With ›Tagfish‹, premiered at Theater der Welt 2010 and PACT Zollverein and created on the former colliery site, BERLIN's cycle ›Horror Vacui‹ (Fear of Emptiness) began in the Ruhr area. This was followed by ›Land's End‹, ›Perhaps All The Dragons‹ and ›Remember The Dragons‹. Their latest piece ›True Copy‹ is another episode of the ›Horror Vacui‹ series.
