Contact Improvisation Jam
Every second Sunday of the month PACT Zollverein hosts a contact improvisation jam that is open to dance enthusiasts and professionals alike. Following a led warm-up, the jam provides space to explore new dance and movement material.

Contact Improvisation is a form of dance improvisation in which points of physical contact provide the starting point for exploring weight transfer, counter balance, momentum, gravity and suspension. It is about freeing the body from habitual movement patterns and concepts, trusting intuition and spontaneous interaction in movement and exploiting the rich possibilities of the present moment. Today Contact Improvisation is recognised as one of the best-known and most characteristic forms of postmodern dance and practiced as a dance form in its own right.

INTRODUCTION TO CONTACT IMPROVISATION

In this we look at the basic elements of contact improvisation: giving and taking weight, non-verbal communication in movement, being in contact with yourself as well as with other dancers.
