International Dance Exchange Ruhr
Platform for international schools of contemporary dance and choreography |
 |
Initiated by Tanzlandschaft Ruhr, this unique network project brought together teachers and students from major European contemporary dance schools for an intensive working exchange at the Choreographisches Zentrum NRW in Essen for the first time in December 2000. Further meetings followed in 2002 and 2004.
In 2004, for example, 80 students and 26 teachers from 8 schools from 5 different countries took part in an eight day meeting. Open discussions and debates about current needs, issues and developments in dance and dance education were as much a part of the ambitious programme as the many classes, workshops and lectures given by outstanding dancers and choreographers. As at previous meetings, the internal programme was proceeded by three different evening length performances given by the students for the general public.
To date the following schools and vocational centres have taken part: Centre National de Danse Contemporaine d’Angers L’Esquisse, Angers (FR); Attakalari Centre for Movement Arts, Bangalore (IN); Performing Arts Research and Training Studios (P.A.R.T.S.), Brussels (BE); Palucca Schule Dresden, Hochschule für Tanz (DE); Folkwang Hochschule, Studiengang Tanz, Essen (DE); Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Zeitgenössischer und Klassischer Tanz, Frankfurt am Main (DE); Yildiniz Teknik Ünivertesi Dans Programi, Istanbul (TR); Laban, London (GB); London Contemporary Dance School (GB); Rotterdamse Dansacademie (NL); Tallinn Pedagogical University (EE); Viljandi Culture Academy (EE)
