THOMAS LEHMEN (DE)
Schrottplatz

Lehmen explains some things (incl. the world) to other things (lamp, ball, newspaper, tomato, etc.): he elucidates the cable to the tomato, the ball to the artwork, and all of these together to the audience and to himself. He presents his choreographic ideas to these things – not really to the audience – going so far as to conceptualise catastrophic scenes. The things are also interested in what people on earth like to do outside, what they might understand or not. Since the things can essentially comprehend only very little, as per Lehmen, they create for themselves some functioning and some less-functioning models of the world.

In this instance of encounter with the absurd and of confrontation with one’s own lack of understanding, art is able to craft ever-new models for temporary realities.
