Richard Siegal (USA / DE)
Richard Siegal (US/DE) is the founder of The Bakery (2002), an organization dedicated to the exploration and production of contemporary performance. Siegal danced with William Forsythe's Ballett Frankfurt from 1997 through its final season in 2004. His own choreography was presented three times by Ballett Frankfurt, most recently in the 2002 trilogy, x (evening). Prior to 1997, he lived and worked in New York City where he danced in the companies of Doug Elkins, Zvi Gotheiner, Janis Brenner, Robin Staf, Muna Tseng, Sin Cha Hong, and Mark Dendy. An early choreography, Solo For Janis, for Janis Brenner, premiered at Danspace Project, NYC, 1997. Consequently, Brenner was nominated for the NY Dance and Performance Award (“Bessie”) and chosen among The Most Memorable Performances
Richard Siegal’s work includes The Kleine Episode, Belgium, 2005, Klapstuk #12; If/Then, NYC, 2005, Danspace Project; Double Story (with Crystal Pite); The How Episode, Berlin, 2004, a production of the choreographic collective Episode, founded by Prue Lang, Nicole Peisl, and Siegal, Hebbel Theater; Stranger, Frankfurt, 2004, Theater am Turm; Spec.Tator Solo, Den Hague, 2003, Holland Dance Festival-FIND; f(r), London, 2003, Transitions Dance Company at the Laban Center; The Bouncy Woman Piece, New York City, 2002, Dance Theater Workshop.
In 2004, Siegal was made an honorary member of the Bolshoi Ballet’s Benois de la Danse and was awarded a fellowship at the prestigious MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire. The season 2006 saw the premieres of new work for The Athens.
He is on faculty of D.A.N.C.E. and at American Dance Festival for which he also curates an annual Forsythe Festival. Richard last performed at PACT at the end of a residency period in 2004 in his piece ›Spy Solo‹.
