| Xavier Le Roy (1963) gained a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 1990 and has worked as a choreographer since 1991. He is currently staging ›Mouvements für Lachenmann‹, a concert evening with music by Helmut Lachenmann, commissioned by Wien Modern 2005. Through his solos ›Self Unfinished‹ (1998) and ›Product of Circumstances‹ (1999) he has opened new perspectives for dance and his individual approach has radicalised academic discourse about the body. The body appears as a practice of critical necessity. Le Roy develops his work like a researcher while simultaneously focusing on his own involvement in the process. He has worked with, amongst others, Christian Bourrigault, the group Detektor, Laurent Goldring, Alain Buffard, Marten Spangberg, Lindy Annis, Bernhard Lang and Eszter Salamon. His works include ›Narcisse Flip‹ (1997), ›Xavier Le Roy‹ (2000), ›Giszelle‹ (2001) with Eszter Salamon, and ›Project‹ (2003) in collaboration with 20 choreographers. He has initiated group projects such as ›Namenlos‹ (1998) and ›E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S.‹ (1999).
