Dance
›The Farewell‹, the last section of Gustav Mahler’s ›The Song of the Earth‹, constitutes both starting point as well as vanishing point for Grace Ellen Barkey’s most personal choreography to date: ›FOREVER‹, to which she and scenographer Lot Lemm give powerful visual expression. The music, sung live by Maarten Seghers in a haunting, unaccompanied version, meshes with the three dancers to become a moving force for the evening. more ...

Performance
Albeit inaccessible to the public, the cave at Chauvet-Pont d’Arc in the Ardèche houses the oldest rock paintings found to date. Reason enough for Italian performance collective, Dewey Dell, to take the audience on a poetic journey right to the origins of European culture. In a powerful interplay of choreography, music, stage design and lighting, they enter into dialogue with how we possibly feel connected to traces of our forebears’ myths and rituals today. more ...

Performative exhibition / World premiere
Embodying traditional war dances and dances of resistance, ›Wars & Dances‹ questions how a contemporary choreographic practice can resist the homogenization of choreographic imagination. Without any promise of authenticity and through empathy rather than historical practices of exclusion, Eszter Salamon engages in a utopian project investing in rituals that are sensible to the ‘common’ and the sharable. more ...
Dance / Performance
›Protagonist‹ is a simmering parable about human existence: about connections and alliances, evolution and revolution, about isolation, control and alienation. In the combination of Jefta van Dinther’s physically-extreme movement vocabulary along with David Kiers’ alluring sound arrangements, vocals from the singer ELIAS, and Minna Tiikkainen’s lighting design, dancers from the world-renowned Cullberg Ballet are thrown into a high-energy arena, an ecstatic, utopian place in which they struggle equally for community and individuality. more ...
